Bargaining Update #32: Conclusion of The Cooling-Off Period
Dear members,
As we approach the end of the cooling-off period on August 1st, we want to provide members with an update on the status of bargaining. Your Bargaining Committee continues to work diligently on your behalf to achieve a Tentative Agreement at the table. While there are still several outstanding articles to resolve, gains are being made through ongoing discussions, as the committee continues to reinforce the key priorities that are important to our membership.
MONETARY EXCHANGES
The Company presented its most recent monetary proposal on Monday, July 27. This marked the second comprehensive package in response to the Union's previous pass on July 3. This continued to miss the mark to address our members' highest priorities but provided the framework for the Bargaining Committee to reevaluate and subsequently respond yesterday in a little over 24 hours.
Members may remember our "This is My Why" postcard drive from last fall, allowing members to write a short message expressing why CA2 is so important to them. These hundreds of cards were delivered to the Company to drive home the resounding messages straight from members to directly to not only the Company's bargaining team, but directly to our Robert Antoniuk, Vice-President - Inflight, Diederik Pen, President and Chief Operating Officer, and Jacqui McGillivray, Executive Vice President and Chief People Officer.
These impactful messages speak volumes above the voices of just the committee at the bargaining table. Thank you to all those who participated in allowing us to use this powerful tool at this critical juncture of this process.
COMMUNICATION/DIRECTION FROM THE LOCAL
As we move closer to the possibility of a strike notice being issued, it is important that all members pay close attention to official Union communications. During recent labour disputes across Canada, one of the most common challenges has been confusion about where members should obtain information and direction.
Throughout this process, your only source of official direction will be your Union. While the Company, media, social media, and other sources may share information or speculation, members should rely exclusively on official communications issued by CUPE Local 8125 through email, our website, and our official social media channels.
Receiving timely, accurate information from a single trusted source will help ensure that all members act consistently, remain informed, and protect both themselves and our collective position.
OUR COMMITMENT
Your Bargaining Committee is committed to keeping members informed with clear, accurate, and timely updates throughout this process. If there are developments that require your attention or action, you will hear directly from us with clear guidance.
In Unity,
Your WestJet Mainline Bargaining Committee
