Encore Bargaining Update #16
Dear Members
This week the committee is pleased to officially welcome Kim Wentzell – CUPE National Representative, to our table as an additional resource for your bargaining team as negotiations continue. Her experience as a CUPE representative, combined with her background as a flight attendant, brings a wealth of knowledge and insight into our discussions.
The committee was also joined by Chris Atkinson, Director of Operations Support & Program, and Shane Carson, Director of Group Resource Planning. They both provided us with valuable insight into the systems that WestJet Encore uses, how those systems function, and the limitations and capabilities associated with them. Their expertise helped deepen our understanding of our systems and will support our approach as we move forward in operational discussions.
At the table this week, we presented one additional article as an initial proposal:
Article 46 - Vacation, Statutory Holidays and GDOs
This week, we reached an Agreement in Principle on two additional articles, bringing our current total to 27. These articles are:
Article 11 – Union Flight Release
Article 47 – Layoff and Recall
Currently, 10 articles remain with the Company, and 3 articles are currently with the Union. Your bargaining committee has consistently responded to Company counterproposals in an expedient manner as discussions have progressed as we remain committed to getting our members a new agreement in a timely manner.
We remain committed to reaching an agreement at the table, and our preparedness and responsiveness reflect that commitment.
